Focus explores the future of fireplace design

With extensive changes in construction regulations fast approaching in 2022, Focus is addressing sustainability head-on with its Ecodesign ready-approved fireplaces, chimneys and stoves. These stoves provide significantly lower emissions than before.

Famed the world over for its ground-breaking 360º pivoting, suspended fireplaces, Focus has introduced many new models which are fully compliant with the new regulations. The company has a range of nearly 70 designs for inside and outside with a large number of models coming in either wood burning or gas versions. A choice of finishes and colours allow for individual customisation of building projects. All models are bespoke and made to customer requirements.

Focus has built its reputation on research and development and now includes 18 gas models in its catalogue. The fires emulate the flames and play of real wood fires to an astonishingly authentic degree, while also eliminating the associated disadvantages. They are equipped with a CE-certified gas burner that can operate with either natural gas or propane. The state-of-the-art combustion system used in Focus gas fires guarantees both ease of use and high performance. Closed gas fires are particularly efficient for heating and are equipped with a remote control. They are also easy to adjust and use. In the case of a power outage, Focus gas fires can continue to operate and provide heat independently of an electric power source, unlike other types of heating systems, such as boilers and pellet stoves.

Focus fires are installed in many low-energy buildings and Passivahus projects, providing clean combustion and high-performance alternatives from the latest Boafocus and Lensfocus. Focus has designed Slimfocus, an Ecodesign-approved fire which is ideal for urban areas where there are restrictions on wood burning fires and stoves. The fire is a periscope of flames and its hearth can be either suspended (so it can pivot) or supported by a base and fixed in place. The streamlined shape takes up little space, whether it is positioned centrally in a room, near a wall or in a corner. Exceptionally fluid lines make it one of Focus’s most stylistically revolutionary fireplaces. Due to demand, Focus has also recently launched a compact wall-mounted version, which takes up significantly less space.

The Gyrofocus has been around for 50 years and has become a cult model. With its original pivoting and suspended hearth, the Gyrofocus continues to appeal to architects all over the world. Combining performance with an elegant profile, it has great design credentials.

Focus also has a range of white metal fires. In a bold move it has selected the award-winning Gyrofocus, Domofocus and Bathyscafocus models from its extensive collection and transformed them into the ‘white knights’ of interior design. Providing a lighter touch to interior schemes, the whiteness shines out and provides a delicate contrast to the roaring flames within.

Focus founder Dominique Imbert explains how the white colour gives the model a totally different look, “The play of light and shadow that is reflected on the white surface brings lightness to the metal body and transforms it into a luminous sculpture whether the fire is on or off.”
