Daylight design within commercial buildings using bespoke structural glazing from VELUX Commercial
Bespoke structural glazing allows architects to showcase their imaginations, creating almost any glass rooflight design imaginable, while also ensuring performance and compliance are met.
Structural glazing enhances more than daylight
Fixed and installed using various methods, structural glazing systems are streamlined products that give the appearance of being part of the building fabric. They allow commercial buildings to have windows as walls and roofs, and walls and roofs as windows. The systems also hold structural elements together to create a strong and secure envelope. Design customisation can provide the exterior of the building with a more homogenous finish that minimises visual interruption to the facade or roof.

Bespoke structural glazing specified for the University of Cambridge Primary School
A total of 350-square-meters of structural glazing was installed by VELUX Commercial to bring natural light to the University of Cambridge Primary School. The unusual shape of the building, coupled with the 15-degree roof pitch, required more non-standard shapes of glazing, kerbs and upstands to be installed to maintain the required performance. A natural ventilation system that complemented the high ceilings was also essential for reasons of energy efficiency.

The specification mandated a bespoke roof glazing system. The solution was a combination of customised modular and bespoke designed structural roof glazing with additional ventilation elements to bring fresh air and daylight to the main building.
