The existing country hotel was converted into offices by Barber Casanovas Ruffles Architects

The brief to Cambridge-based Barber Casanovas Ruffles (BCR) Architects was to maximise the layout of the building and create new offices that would attract local businesses. As a result, the suites have been designed to be sympathetic to the property’s key structural elements, providing light and airy spaces that suit the needs of modern commerce.

The kitchens were specified in Sand, Claret or Apple Green

An important element of the brief was to utilise kitchens that could provide food storage alongside basic preparation and cooking facilities. The client chose to exclude hotplates from the design in order to limit spillages and damage to the kitchens. After consulting with Elfin Kitchens, BCR Architects specified a selection of ‘Premium’ models, with each incorporating a built-in refrigerator, 20-litre solo microwave, storage drawers, sink, drainer and upgraded tap. The kitchens also include wall cupboards for additional storage, and stainless steel splashbacks. The latter provide a clean and contemporary finish.

The kitchens are fitted into dedicated alcoves, which are out of sight when viewed from the main offices. However, by utilising Elfin’s optional colour palette, they provide a bold contrast to the modern interiors, with either Apple Green, Claret or Sand chosen for each suite.
