Chaired by Ken Shuttleworth, the jury of architects and consultants considered a record number of entries
The six-strong Awards jury was chaired by Ken Shuttleworth, founder of Make in 2004 and architect of buildings throughout the UK including 5 Broadgate in London, The Cube in Birmingham, Oxford Molecular Pathology Institute and the ‘Copper Box’ at London 2012.
Denise Bennetts co-founded Bennetts Associates in 1987, and plays a strategic role in its design direction. She is a respected critic, awards assessor and external examiner.
Jason Flanagan is design director at Flanagan Lawrence Architects, who leads teams on projects including performing arts centres, masterplanning, hotels, residential and commercial offices.
Steve Mudie is a partner at cost consultant alinea with extensive experience in the curtain walling industry. He provides strategic advice on facade solutions across all market sectors.
Paul Savidge is managing director at facade consultant Wintech, with a combined background in specialist facade engineering and dispute resolution.
Carl Turner is founding director of Carl Turner Architects and co-founder of Pop Brixton and Peckham Levels social enterprises. His Slip House won the Manser Medal in 2013. He is on Southwark’s Design Review Panel.
The criteria for assessment of the awards focussed on creativity, innovation, technical skill and creative collaboration:
Creativity
Does the project demonstrate design quality, whether at a macro and/or micro scale?
Innovation
Is there evidence of significant innovation in terms of design, detailing or constructional skills?
Technical skill
Does the project show high levels of technical skill in its detailed design and/or assembly?
Creative collaboration
Does the project demonstrate a productive and creative collaboration between the designer, specialist contractor and/or manufacturer?
