The Schueco Excellence Awards, now in their fifth year, highlight and celebrate the collaboration between architect, fabricator and specialist contractor. Since their launch. the Awards have showcased the very best contributions from design teams and the Schueco facade, window and door systems involved. Entries are judged on innovation, technical skill and collaboration to deliver architectural intent.

Undaunted by a record number of entries, the jury for the 2018 Schueco Excellence Awards for Design & Innovation – now organised in association with Architecture Today – set about its task with gusto, quickly assessing and ranking potential contenders for awards in each given category. Drawing on the technical expertise at hand, and following discussions on the relative merits of a record number of entries, decisions were democratically reached with relative unanimity, guided by chair Ken Shuttleworth.

After winners and commendations were decided in each category, the jury selected the Simon Sainsbury Centre designed by Stanton Williams (above) as its Overall Winner, while Niall McLaughlin Architcts LAMDA Drama School was given an Overall Commendation.

The 15 award-winning and commended projects represent a broad range of work from around the UK and Ireland, from innovative extensions and refurbishments to bespoke residential and cultural projects, but all value the significance of good daylighting and energy performance in their design.
