Axter has provided a range of innovative and robust bituminous waterproofing solutions for a landmark mixed-use development in Bristol

Buildings.

Axter has designed and supplied more than 10,000-square-metres of waterproofing systems for multiple areas on a flagship Crest Nicholson South West development in Bristol. Known locally as The Paintworks, the scheme includes an eclectic mix of apartments, houses and live/work units, that further enhance the already established Paintworks community.

The Wilotekt-Plus structural waterproofing with Hydrodrain drainage boards used on the development is supported by Axter’s drainage calculations and guidance

Axter proposed two robust bituminous solutions at design stage: second generation structural waterproofing Wilotekt-Plus to handle heavy trafficking and hard landscaping at podium deck level; and the Excel reinforced bituminous membrane (RBM) system with a range of finishes, including decking, paving and crystalline solar panels.

A mix of soft and hard landscaping above the car park is fully protected by Axter’s Wilotekt-Plus structural waterproofing with Hydrodrain drainage boards, fully supported by the company’s drainage calculations and guidance. Waterproofed using the Excel® RBM system (laid under timber decking), Block F incorporates a terrace from which building users can watch evening movies projected onto the exterior of block S.

Due to the speed of construction, the project management provided by Axtershield installer SPAN Roofing Contractors and supported by the Axter technical and QA team, was essential to the success of the project. Guidance provided to the site-teams and passing trades eliminated the possibility of damage to the waterproofing. With the backing of the Axter quality assurance schedule, the project was delivered on time with no noted defects.
