The mixed-use development by Franklin Ellis Architects is located in the historic heart of Leicester

A landmark mixed-use development in the historic heart of Leicester has been given a modern aesthetic thanks to a range of high-performance aluminium fenestration solutions from Senior Architectural Systems. Designed by Franklin Ellis Architects, the new building in the New Walk area of the city is located on the site of the former council offices and features high- quality office space, residential apartments and ground-floor retail units.

The facetted facade is formed from SF52 aluminium curtain walling

Senior worked alongside main contractor John Sisk (with whom it has an established supplier agreement) and specialist contractor Elite Aluminium Systems. To maximise the benefits of supply chain collaboration and value engineering, Senior’s experienced team of architectural advisors were on hand throughout the contract to provide full technical and design support.

SF52 curtain walling combines slim sightlines with high levels of thermal performance

A key feature of the scheme is the striking facetted facade of the main building, which has been created using Senior’s popular SF52 aluminium curtain walling system. Providing a sleek aesthetic and exceptional thermal performance, the SF52 system has constant 52mm slim sightlines for both mullions and transoms, and can specified as capped, silicone-sealed or as a combination of the two for even greater design flexibility. Senior’s in-house powder-coating facility means that the SF52 curtain wall system is available in an almost unlimited range of colours and finishes.

To provide visual consistency and improved technical performance, Senior’s SPW600 thermally-broken aluminium windows and robust SPW500 aluminium doors were also specified for the scheme.
