Thirty-one projects have been named as finalists in the inaugural Architecture Today Awards, launched to celebrate buildings that have stood the test of time. In the Healthcare category, two projects were shortlisted as finalists and were presented at the live finals on Monday 7 November 2022 at 15Hatfields, the home of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) in London.

Finalists in the Healthcare category were judged by RIBA President and AHMM director Simon Allford, Nana Biamah-Ofosu of Studio NYALI, AKTII co-founder Hanif Kara, Argent Related chair David Partridge and Peter Bishop, former director of Design for London. The panel was chaired by Architecture Today Awards editor Isabel Allen. Read about each finalist, below.

Clock View Hospital by Medical Architecture (2015), Liverpool

Clock View Hospital, in one of the most deprived areas of Liverpool, set a new national benchmark for facilities that meet the safety, security and clinical needs of a modern mental health facility, provide a dignified and therapeutic environment for patients, and destigmatise mental health services within the local community.

The Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (2011), Bath

The Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care was the first tertiary UK healthcare building to be constructed in solid laminated timber. A simple legible plan defines a sequential process of patient care and isolates back-of-house from front-of-house. The layout provides key spaces with a visual connection to the outside and minimises reliance on artificial light.
