With Schueco Excellence Awards being contested in ten categories, a large audience of architects and contractors gathered for the presentation ceremony at London’s Saatchi Gallery on June 21st. Hosted by architect and television presenter Piers Taylor, the awards – chosen by the jury of Denise Bennetts, Jason Flanagan, Steve Mudie, Paul Savidge, Carl Turner and Ken Shuttleworth – were only revealed on the day. Impressed by both the quantity and quality of entries, Taylor announced the winning schemes in rapid succession, together with commendations in a number of categories. Finally, Stanton Williams’ Simon Sainsbury Centre in Cambridge was declared as Overall Winner, and Niall McLaughlin Architects’ LAMDA Dance School as the Overall Commendation – both worthy winners in terms of the awards’ criteria of creativity, innovation, technical skill and creative collaboration.
