Bathtub to shower – a smart solution with a tailored Plug & Play system from wedi

Marriott, one of the world’s leading hotel chains, was looking for a solution that not only fulfilled the highest standards in terms of design and quality, but could also be installed quickly without requiring much coordination between trades on site.

Thanks to key advantages, such as the prefabrication of components during manufacturing according to individual specifications, it chose wedi’s clever plug & play solutions. 122 bathrooms over three floors (9-11) have already been renovated in this idyllic waterfront hotel and the hotel remained fully operational during the entire renovation.

Low construction height – Fundo Integro
The transformation of the bathtubs into low-threshold showers formed the central part of the project, and the biggest technical challenge was the implementation of the drainage as desired by the customer – due to the local legislation an overflow was required. wedi made this possible in a smart way: a custom-made version of the Fundo Integro shower element was developed especially for the Marriott Hotel with both a point and a linear drainage integrated into the shower element, whilst keeping the total installation height at an incredible 93mm!

Time-saving system solutions
The wedi Fundo Integro shower element is available in the standard wedi assortment. It includes a standard-compliant DN50 point drainage and this is precisely what makes it perfect for such complex refurbishment projects. Completing the installation, the interlocking walls of the shower enclosures were also specially designed for the Copenhagen Marriott Hotel project.

Perfect combination of design and technology
The ready-to-install wedi Top surfaces ensure the luxurious look of the new wellness showers. Instead of tiles, the client opted for large format, tailor-made design surfaces in ‘flake white’. Thanks to their shapes and slopes being coordinated with one other, the Fundo Top simply needed to be bonded to the shower element and the Top Wall to the custom-made wedi Installation wall. The design surfaces are anti-slip and waterproof in the overall wedi system.

Satisfaction of all parties involved
With everything prefabricated in the factory to precisely fit together on site, the intelligent system concept eliminated the need for complex installations and labour intensive tiling and grouting. This not only saved a lot of time, but also meant significantly less noise and dirt during construction. The result is exclusive and inviting: the groutless appearance transforms both the floor and the wall areas into a visual delight. The interplay of light and the flakes within the wedi Top material create reflections that highlight the fluidity of water conveying a serene, contemporary look. The thoughtful design marries form and function into a seamless and invigorating shower experience.
