For more than 30 years, British Spirals & Castings has been designing and manufacturing bespoke staircases, railings, balustrades, and balconies. As a family business based in Derbyshire, we take real pride in ensuring each piece is beautifully crafted here in Britain and delivered with outstanding service.
Our experienced team can work closely with you to develop your piece, from initial concept designs and site meetings, through to manufacture and finishing. We work on projects of all scales, from private residences to major public buildings, and can create the staircases, balconies and railings in a range of materials, including steel, A-grade timbers, cast and wrought iron or cast aluminium, from our traditional Staffordshire foundry.
We offer several staircase and balcony ranges and all aspects of these can be tailored to your vision and the requirements of your project. In addition to an extensive library of existing patterns, which spans over 200 years of pattern design, we can also develop one-of-a-kind moulds for components, such as spindles. These can either be developed from your own drawings, or for conservation projects, can be cast based on samples from the building or from pictures and drawings.
In addition to our standard ranges, we are also excited to take on one-off commissions. Over the years, we have worked with architects to develop a variety of designs, including a helical floating staircase based on a nautilus shell. We love to rise to a challenge and create pieces which complete spaces.
When working on an existing building, we can utilise the latest laser-scanning technologies to create a high-definition digital recreation of the space. This ensures that the design and manufacture of the finished staircase, balcony or balustrade takes into account the idiosyncrasies typical of older properties, such as out of plumb or bulging walls. Our dedicated design team can then develop these into detailed 2D or 3D designs, allowing accurate visualisation for clients. Along with these designs, we can also provide all the necessary structural calculations to support approvals with conservation officers or Building Control.
We are passionate about delivering the highest standards of service and quality, and our friendly team will keep you up to date on progress throughout your project. Many of our workshop team joined us as apprentices and have been specially trained by our expert craftsmen. We also offer dedicated powder coating facilities and work with a number of trusted partners who can provide painted finishes to cast iron pieces, including marine grade options for external costal projects.
