Flat roof windows are increasingly popular in modern architecture and home extensions for their ability to flood spaces with daylight and sky views. But today, roof windows are expected to do more than provide light – they must also deliver safety, practicality, and comfort.

VELUX has addressed these evolving needs with its new Glass Rooflight Electric Roof Exit, a product that combines the sleek design of its flat roof range with the functionality of safe roof access.

Safe and secure roof access
Flat roof access is often necessary for inspection, maintenance, or servicing equipment. Traditionally, this has relied on basic roof hatches that can detract from architectural aesthetics. The new roof exit offers a more refined alternative. Its sash opens to around 60°, creating safe passage while maintaining clean glazing lines.

For safety, it comes with a mandatory safety and comfort ventilation kit. This ensures entrapment and fall-through protection and enables the window to function as a comfort ventilation unit when not used for access.

Effortless everyday operation
Designed for convenience, the unit is electrically operated and supplied with a wireless wall switch for easy use. A built-in rain sensor automatically closes the sash when precipitation is detected, ensuring interiors remain protected even when left open for ventilation. These features make the roof exit practical for routine maintenance, while also supporting indoor comfort through controlled airflow.

Design integration
The new Glass Rooflight Electric Roof Exit shares the same slim profile and glass-to-edge design as the wider VELUX flat roof range, ensuring cohesive aesthetics when combined with fixed or venting rooflights. Its contemporary look maximises daylight and creates bright, open interiors.

The product is available in three sizes—1000x1000mm, 1200x1200mm, and 1500x1000mm – offering architects flexibility to balance daylight and access requirements.
