As a UK Timber window and door manufacturer with 70 years of experience, Mumford & Wood knows that to produce high-performing windows we must invest in premium grade materials. We understand that by using only the best clear-grade timber, superior strength and stability will be achieved – all important qualities for our specifier and homeowner clients.
We also use engineered substrates rather than solid pieces of wood. Independent tests have proven that engineered components are 60 per cent stronger, offering better security, thermal ratings, comfort, and acoustic performance. All wood that is not used is kept in the country of origin where it is recycled at source. As a result, certificated timber used by Mumford & Wood is some of the most renewable, sustainable material in our industry.
Technology vs a human touch – getting the balance right
As a ‘Made in Britain’ member, we believe that using the skills of our own local, experienced joiners is imperative to ensuring quality at every stage of production. However, we have also heavily invested in machinery to ensure precision is met – a complementary mix that is becoming rarer in our industry.
What windows do I need?
We offer clients a core range of spring sash, box sash, casement windows and roof lanterns, which can all be tailored to suit any property size, age or style.
Casement windows provide a flush-line appearance, perfect for both modern new-builds or traditional refurbishment projects.
Box sash windows retro-fit in place of original box sash windows in older properties, or create a traditional appearance in new-builds. They offer authentic period styling and the latest window technology, including double glazing for top thermal and acoustic performance. The distinctive deep moulded internal profiles are available in either ovolo or lamb’s tongue profiles with elegant glazing bars.
Spring Sash windows offer the perfect solution for new-build projects and buildings requiring a flush-reveal installation. These double-glazed units ensure ultimate standards of security, thermal and acoustic performance, which exceeds the requirements of current Building Regulations.
In conservation areas and in more modern buildings of traditional architectural style, we have designed a simple box cover to completely conceal the current spring balance which achieves an authentic period aesthetic.
What about projects with stringent planning or listed buildings?
Our Heritage range offers authentic products designed to replicate and replace original single-glazed windows. Manufactured as single-glazed frames with hand-faced external putty and true bars, they feature 4mm toughened glass or heritage-style glass giving a more authentic, uneven finish. Each window is bespoke in size and pattern, with a profile preference of Georgian, Gothic, Victorian or Queen Anne Ovolo.
Our Classic range is designed to satisfy the requirements of stringent planning with slim double- glazing, individual 14mm slim profile units with true bars, and a traditional external putty-faced finish. You can even achieve the natural appearance of hand-blown glass with reduced reflection through Victorian sheet or Crown glass.
