From underfloor heating options and preformed shower trays to finishing profiles which make the sanitaryware stand out, there are plenty of ways to bring wetrooms to life.

Waterproofing Elements

To achieve a waterproof result, tiles and natural stone require support behind the scenes. This comes in the form of waterproof membranes and backerboards, which prevent water ingress for the lifetime of the installation – an absolute must when it comes to designing a wetroom.

Schlüter-KERDI-BOARD can offer this along with easy installation. -The BBA-certified tile backerboard can be used as a waterproof substrate in the creation of bonded waterproofing assemblies with tile coverings. Available in seven thickness, it provides a sustainable alternative to cement-faced boards and the flexibility to work with a variety of different projects and specifications.

Shower Drainage and Level Entry Access

Efficient drainage ensures that a wetroom remains safe to use and mould-free. The tile and stone covering in the shower area must be sufficiently sloped to allow for the appropriate drainage. Schlüter’s prefabricated levelling and shower tray components, which are available with a point drainage system or a component linear drainage system, can help with this.

An option to consider is Schlüter-Systems’ low height shower board, part of the Schlüter-KERDI-SHOWER-LTS range for level entry access. The preformed shower tray has been created with a 1 in 80 slope to work harmoniously with the linear drainage system Schlüter®-KERDI-LINE-G3. When used together, this provides a simple, low height single-source solution.

The KERDI-LINE-G3 drain complies with BS EN 1253, providing a constant 50mm water seal and anti-blockage based on an 8mm ball bearing test. It is another recent and welcome addition to the KERDI range. At just 78mm high it offers a low height solution whilst also meeting the necessary building requirements.

Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating is becoming an increasingly popular choice for bathrooms and wetrooms. Not only does it offer a great feature for the homeowner, especially in the colder months, it can also add considerable value to the property so may be a worthwhile option.

Schlüter-DITRA-HEAT-E keeps build-up heights to a minimum, incorporating uncoupling, waterproofing and underfloor heating in one solution. The versatile electric underfloor heating system solution can also be used to create heated walls, shelves and other features which opens the door to a multitude of design opportunities.

Schlüter-BEKOTEC-THERM offers a modern alternative to traditional water-fed underfloor heating systems. Minimal screed volumes and innovative system panels define this responsive and energy-efficient solution to creating a heated floor assembly.

Adding the Finishing Touches

Once the foundations of the wetroom are complete, it is time to create the right aesthetic and add some personality. There are plenty of ways to make your tile or stone stand out and you can do this with the reassurance that edge protection will also be provided.

Schlüter®-TRENDLINE finishing profiles are available in a variety of different colours and textures, giving you full flexibility to complement the chosen tile effortlessly. This can be achieved by offsetting the colour to make a statement with the tiles, or for visual flow using one tone of tile, matching the colour of your profile to it.

For elegant storage solutions, shower niches provide stylish integrated shelving that can be tiled in-line with the rest of the room or even become a focal point with using of accent tiles. Schlüter-KERDI-BOARD-N is a range of prefabricated niches for tile and stone, with perfect waterproofing thanks to their Schlüter-KERDI coating, which can be easily integrated into the wall surface.

Whether you are looking to create a fully warrantied waterproofing system at its earliest stages, or add some attractive elements to a finished wetroom, Schlüter-Systems is here to help, offering peace of mind and unparalleled solutions.
