With interior design focus still very much built around open-plan environments, handling sound within these spaces is always challenging. A lack soft surfaces and careful thought about the transference of sound, combined with the reverberation of sound waves against hard surfaces and a lack of internal walls keeping conversations private or intelligible can be the primary cause of failure to deliver a workable building.
Soundtect is an acoustic solution manufacturer who began trading in 2010 with a small selection of Class A 3D wall acoustic panels. 13-years later, a lack of wall space in many modern buildings has led to a migration of ceiling applications to perform this task as the need for reverberation control remains vital in respect of well-being and productivity in the work place.
Thankfully, acoustic treatments now form an integral addition to most new builds or refurbishments, whether they are offices, education environments, or hospitality spaces. Soundtect has worked with emerging trends over the years to stay current, flexible, and compliant with today’s demands both in terms of design and certification. The company has seen several of its products selected as finalists for Mix Interiors and the Surface Design Awards, with the Harmony range recognised last year, for the Spirit Aerospace Glasgow project, which applied the product to the walls to create a seamless contemporary space.
Architect Louis de Soissons specified Harmony for installation in the sales and events mall at HR Owen’s luxury multi-franchise automotive development in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, which would have been a cacophony of echoes without the wall treatment Soundtect supplied.
As interior design trends evolve, so does the need to work with the changing global environment. The acoustic products manufactured by Soundtect have recently been certified by Green Tag for both sustainability and health declarations with an outstanding Global GreenTag Platinum HEALTH Asthma & Allergy Sensitive HealthRATE certification outcome. This allies Soundtect solutions to green building projects that are registered with world-leading sustainable, ethical, and healthy building programs, such as WELL, LEED and Green Star.
Last year, Soundtect developed the new lightweight Acoura ceiling system, which has been applied to the ceilings of the new Riddel Hall Conference Centre at Queens University, Belfast. Contractor NW Drylining was delighted with the product and the ease with which it could be installed, carefully hiding M&E elements, while also providing quick and efficient access when needed.
In common with all Soundtect products, Acoura is manufactured from 70 per cent, third-generation recycled PET with a simple, but carefully engineered system of U-shaped channels, combining aesthetic beauty and highly efficient sound absorption with an easy-to-install hidden fixing method for wall-to-wall acoustic ceiling applications. ACOURA is available in 24 colours and a variety of widths and depths, providing unbridled reverberation control and a beautiful, serene addition to any room or environment. A case study of the Riddel Hall project will be available on the Soundtect website when the project is completed.
