Back in June 2019, the Royal Institute of British Architects declared a climate emergency and committed to an action plan with measurable actions to support a net zero built environment. Reaching net zero requires that our buildings are not only energy efficient, but that they are also capable of generating energy using renewable technologies.
Next generation PowerPanel from Kingspan is an integrated roofing and photovoltaic (PV) solution designed for commercial pitched roofs. It can help to create a thermally efficient building envelope, whilst generating renewable solar energy to meet the operational needs of the building occupiers, supporting the journey to net zero.
But there’s a lot more to it than that.
What is different about PowerPanel?
This innovative system combines the thermal efficiency of Kingspan’s industry-leading QuadCore insulated panels with advanced solar technology, delivering U-values as low as 0.11 W/m²K and energy output up to 475Wp using dual-glass monocrystalline PV modules from LONGi, a world leader in solar manufacturing.
PowerPanel is one of the first systems globally to earn the FM Approved mark to FM 4478– examination Standard for Roof-Mounted Rigid Photovoltaic Module Systems. This rigorous standard assesses fire performance, wind uplift, hail damage, seismic performance requirements and gravity load resistance from the point of view of asset protection.
Manufactured in the UK using state-of-the-art robotics in a factory accredited to ISO 9001, and ISO 37301, PowerPanel provides a high level of quality assurance. Because each PV module is precisely fitted under strict factory quality control systems, it reduces the risks associated with on-site installation, as well as supporting speedier construction.
From a design perspective, photovoltaics can be an obtrusive addition to rooftops. PowerPanel has been designed to present a low profile, allowing a sleek, slimline aesthetic to be maintained.
As a significant investment, it is important to optimise the effectiveness of photovoltaics and to get the best performance from your roof. Our Tech-eXchange team can support with every aspect of your project, from design and details through to installation and maintenance. This technical support can also help to make sure that other design considerations are covered, such as safe maintenance, shading from roof parapets or other rooftop installations, and optimising rooflights.
Finally, for added peace of mind, a comprehensive, insurer-backed Kingspan PowerPanel Assured Warranty is available, subject to project specific information, covering the thermal and structural performance of the insulated panels for up to 25 years, with up to 40 years external coating warranty, whilst the photovoltaic module is covered by a product warranty of up to 12 years and a linear power warranty of up to 25 years.
Sandra Del Bove, Group Head of Innovation at Kingspan, commented: “The launch of PowerPanel marks a significant step toward making renewable energy more accessible to our customers worldwide. Our vision has always been to provide a fully tested and reliable system, ensuring confidence in every installation. This launch is only the first step in what promises to be an inspiring journey ahead.’’
