Buildings.

Durability and sustainability are an important part of building design, with materials, like Colorcoat Prisma® and Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® pre-finished steel from Tata Steel, helping to deliver a whole-life carbon benefit. Find out more about this, here.

As one of the elements that are consistently exposed throughout a building’s lifecycle external roof and wall cladding materials must be both durable and long lasting. Not only reducing the need for costly repairs or maintenance in the future but also helping to deliver a whole-life carbon benefit for a building, with sustainability and embodied carbon at the forefront of many architects’ minds.

For this reason, it’s no surprise that pre-finished steel has become one of the most popular building envelope solutions. In addition to multiple design and colour options, it can offer reduced maintenance and corrosion resistance throughout a building’s lifecycle, as well as being recyclable at its end of life.

One of the unique things about pre-finished steel is the different layers that make up its composition. This includes paint layers, primer, pre-treatment and metallic coatings, each applied to the steel in careful and controlled processes to ensure the best results. The quality, type, thickness, consistency and application of these layers is what dictates the overall durability and quality of the steel, resulting in a material that is extremely robust, versatile and aesthetically pleasing. A great example of this are the Colorcoat® branded products from Tata Steel.

Colorcoat Prisma® and Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra® offer excellent durability with both being supplied with an optimised Galvalloy® metallic coating. As well as delivering superior corrosion resistance and cut edge protection, this offers a combination of increased barrier and sacrificial protection when compared to conventional Hot-Dipped Galvanised (HDG) coatings. Both products surpass the requirements of RC5+ as per EN 10169:2022, with the RC5+ category the highest classification available for corrosion resistance.

Manufactured in the UK, Colorcoat Prisma® and Colorcoat HPS200 Ultra have decades of development and evolution backing them up, are certified to BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing standard, and BBA certified for durability in excess of 40 years. Each product is also independently tested for the liberation of volatile organic compounds (VOC) against EN ISO 16000-9, achieving an A+ rating and are chrome-free and REACH compliant.

Both products are offered with the renowned Confidex® Guarantee, one of the most comprehensive guarantees of its kind currently available. Promising up to 40 years protection for industrial and commercial buildings direct to the building owner when registered online, the guarantee can be transferred in the case of a change of ownership and is ‘PV ready’, to meet the growing popularity of Photovoltaic (PV) frame modules.
