Style has employed Dorma Variflex moveable walls at grade I listed Rushton Hall to maximise spatial flexibility

Style worked closely with the client and architect to increase spatial flexibility within the hotel’s hospitality rooms

For many hotels, adaptable space is key to maximising revenue from function rooms. To this end, Rushton Hall, a Grade I listed country house hotel near Kettering in Northamptonshire, appointed Style to add flexibility to its newly refurbished library and function rooms. The intention was to provide privacy when required, while also ensuring that the spaces could be opened up for larger gatherings. Dorma Variflex was considered the most suitable moveable wall, with Style installing two separate partitions across the three rooms – all in a stunning finish to complement the historic interior.

Working with Rushton Hall and its architect, The Strangeway Partnership, Style was tasked with making the hotel’s event space more flexible, specifically for weddings. A Variflex moveable wall separates the library from the main function rooms and delivers 57dB Rw acoustic privacy. This provides a tranquil and beautiful space for wedding ceremonies that is free from disturbance by staff or guests in other parts of the hotel. The moveable wall opens up to incorporate the dining room where guests can enjoy the wedding breakfast and speeches. During this time, the second Variflex wall seals off the main dance floor, opening up after the meal, to conjoin the dining room and main function suite.

“The moveable wall solution we installed enables the room to be gradually opened out during the course of a wedding,” says Mike Fine, director of Style Midlands. “The rooms are all sealed off at the start of the couple’s special day. As the day progresses from ceremony to meal to dancing, the space opens out, giving guests one expansive area to enjoy by the evening. It’s a really clever solution and perfect for weddings in such a stunning location.”
