The Norton Folgate development in London by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Stanton Williams, Morris+Company, DSDHA, and EAST wins the Supreme Award at this year’s Brick Awards run by the Brick Development Association.
The Norton Folgate development in London’s City Fringe, designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Stanton Williams, Morris + Company, DSDHA, and EAST, has been named Supreme Winner at the 2024 BDA Brick Awards. This ambitious project has transformed a series of underutilised urban blocks into a thriving community. By carefully restoring, refurbishing, and extending existing buildings, as well as introducing sensitively-designed new structures, the masterplan has breathed new life into the area.
Clay brick, a material synonymous with quality, durability, and timeless appeal, is a key element of the development’s architectural palette. By employing a diverse range of brick tones and textures, the architects have created a harmonious and distinctive neighbourhood that seamlessly blends with the historic character of the Elder Street Conservation Area.
The project also won the Urban Regeneration category.
This year’s jury was chaired by Jonathan Hall (AHMM) alongside Scott Cromack (Croudace Homes), Dean Degun (Swift Brickwork Contractors), Alison J Duxbury (Triangle Architects), Jennifer Dyne (David Kohn Architects), Dave Mills (Lyons & Annoot), Amy Napier (Napier Clarke), John Ramshaw (Architecture Today), Ian Shard (LBT Brick and Facades), Sarah Firth (Haworth Tompkins), Tim Greensmith (Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios), Lex Harrison (Arup), Luke Tozer (Pitman Tozer Architects), Tatiana Von Preussen (vPPR), and Ian Wilson (Anglian Brickwork).
