Gensler ESG Consultancy Director Juliette Morgan joins the Architecture Today Awards jury, where she will be on the look out for projects that have gone beyond certification to be thoughtful about climate and biodiversity impact.

Buildings.

Prior to joining Gensler as ESG Consultancy Director, Juliette Morgan was Head of Sustainable Development at British Land, where she was responsible for sustainability across the portfolio.

Morgan, who joins our 18-strong jury for the inaugural Architecture Today Awards, shares what qualities she hopes to see among entries.

What attracted you to be a judge at Architecture Today Awards?
I’m new into the architecture industry, but I’ve been client side for a while, so really appreciate the opportunity to be amongst an incredible array of projects and esteemed judges, some of whom are friends and future friends. It’s an honour to be asked.

What qualities will you be looking out for – what will make a project stand out to you
Projects that have given thought to adaptation, resilience, and gone beyond certification to be thoughtful about climate and biodiversity impact. Projects that are genuinely socially inclusive – not just about the occupiers of the building but the community and context in which they sit. I’d like to see biomaterials, or places that look out for the people at the edges of society.

What do you hope will be taken away from the live presentation and judging process?
Inspiration and a sense of architecture and buildings as a responsibility – we are using future generations’ carbon, so having respect for that and making decisions as custodians of the future is something I hope people come away with a sense of.

What building would you most like to see among the entries?
A migrant settlement centre? A biodegradable building? Something surprising, delightful and generous.
