Architects recognise that the spaces we spend time in have a big impact on our wellbeing, and as such it is vital to design areas, such as bathrooms, with relaxation, comfort and leisure in mind. Lynne Clapham-Carter, Specification Manager at Geberit, brought to light how Geberit’s innovative solutions can play an important role in addressing the key aspects of wellness in hotel bathroom design during a recent roundtable discussion.

Sensory experiences
Our senses play a crucial role in creating memorable and wellness-oriented spaces. At Geberit, our products are designed to create sensory-rich experiences. For instance, we understand the importance of acoustics in bathroom design and undertook in-depth research in 2021. The results showed that unwanted noise inside the home affects more than half of us and has a direct impact on wellbeing. A constant dripping tap, the irritating whirr of an extractor fan, or even a loud flushing toilet can negatively affect us.

Our research found that bathroom sounds disrupt more than a quarter of us (28 per cent) either at night or when relaxing, and one in five (19 per cent) told us that they were disturbed by noises relating to flushing toilets, taps or pipes and drains. Solutions, such as sound optimised drainage and wall-hung toilets, can help mitigate unwanted noise. Architects can make well-informed choices to actively reduce the impact of unnecessary noise inside hotel bathrooms and, in turn, noticeably increase guest experience and satisfaction.

Water saving
Sustainability is deeply ingrained in our product design philosophy. We recognise that even the smallest of design choices can have a significant impact on water consumption. This commitment is clear across Geberit’s range of products, like our expertly designed brassware with built-in water-saving technology, offering precise control over water usage. Our infrared taps are responsive to proximity and minimise water wastage by automatically stopping water flow during brief interruptions. Additionally, our dual flush plates and space-saving bathtubs provide efficient solutions to reduce water consumption in bathrooms. Geberit has also developed an integrated urinal flush control that offers three different power supply options. It efficiently cleans the urinal ceramic with just 0.5 litres of water per flush.

Future-proofing and accessibility
There is a growing demand for accessible rooms, especially with an ageing population, emphasising the need for future-proofing in hotel bathroom design. Accessibility should be considered at the start of any project, and contrary to popular belief, design doesn’t have to be compromised. Subtle, yet functional design elements can enhance accessibility greatly, with little to no impact on the overall aesthetics of the room, creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all guests.

Geberit manufactures a range of products that can help architects to create hotel bathrooms that achieve accessibility and style in equal measure. For instance, raised level pans, infrared flushing and long projection pans can make a stay considerably more comfortable.

Geberit’s commitment to wellness
Our products can not only enhance the sensory experience but also contribute to well-crafted, inclusive and future-proof hotel bathrooms that align with the latest design trends. By focusing on wellbeing, inclusivity and sensorial richness, Geberit empowers hotel architects to create bathrooms that are both functional and transformative, setting the tone for an exceptional guest experience.
