The Recycled Leather Series exemplifies Karta’s commitment to reducing waste and rethinking material sources. At its core, this series is constructed using leather offcuts repurposed from the shoe industry, transforming discarded remnants into high-performance, visually-striking floorboards. These leather fragments are only the beginning.
Karta Recycled Leather Series: Bowen wide plank
Each board is layered with a total of five essential components. Beneath the surface sits a durable layer of biodegradable wood composed entirely of PEFC-certified natural fibres and resin, ensuring both strength and environmental responsibility. A cork backing adds additional comfort and acoustic benefits, while a stabilising wood fibre layer reinforces the board’s integrity. The high-definition printed woodgrain is then applied using biodegradable ink, preserving environmental priorities without compromising on appearance. Finally, each plank is finished with Karta Plated™, a specially developed water-resistant barrier that provides an ultra-durable AC5-rated topcoat with a sophisticated super matte finish.

The visual design of Karta’s floors is where technology and heritage intersect. Inspired by Ted Todd’s three decades of work in reclaimed and natural hardwoods, each photo-realistic design is meticulously scanned and printed to replicate authentic wood textures, from reclaimed English oak to refined French oak and aged European timbers. Unlike traditional LVT or vinyl flooring, where pattern repetition is often a giveaway, Karta Floors’ extensive timber library ensures no visible repeats across 20 boards. This commitment to design authenticity delivers a far more natural and organic appearance. Selected styles within the series have even more pronounced variation between planks, intentionally incorporating higher contrast and visible ‘imperfections’ to mimic the irregularity of real wood.

The Recycled Leather Series has been engineered for practicality as much as sustainability. It utilises a modern click-lock system, allowing for adhesive-free installation directly over subfloors without the need for underlay. This not only saves time and labour during fitting but significantly reduces installation costs, making Karta a commercially viable choice for large-scale projects.
Each board measures 1850mm x 200mm x 9mm and comes in a wide plank format, ideal for adding a sense of space and elegance to residential, commercial, or hospitality interiors. With 18 rich, serviceable tones available, from pale neutrals to deep, earthy browns, design professionals have a versatile palette at their fingertips to suit a wide range of projects and schemes.

This new collection is a blueprint for what the future of material innovation looks like. Low in VOCs and completely free of SVOCs, this flooring is kinder to the air you breathe. Every layer of its construction is designed for longevity and low impact, and is 100 per cent recyclable, championing closed-loop product design that fits seamlessly into circular economy goals.
