To celebrate 20 years of driving change, Futurebuild is launching Impact 20×20: Call for Impact — an inspiring new initiative that provides a platform for visionary ideas and practical insights. Impact 20×20 invites future leaders, changemakers, and experts across the industry to present concepts, research, and solutions that can drive real change. The initiative embodies Futurebuild’s commitment to showcasing forward-thinking approaches that can make an immediate difference in shaping a sustainable built environment. It also underscores the event’s dedication to innovation, collaboration, and meaningful action.

Impact 20×20 invites changemakers to submit proposals to present as Pecha Kucha-style sessions, each featuring 20 slides shown for 20 seconds. This dynamic format ensures a sharp focus on big ideas, with presenters given the opportunity to present on one of Futurebuild’s key Impact Stages: Buildings, Energy, FutureX Digital Disruptors, Materials or Placemaking.

Martin Hurn, Event Director at Futurebuild, states: “As we celebrate 20 years of championing sustainability, we are excited to launch Impact 20×20. This call for impact invites bold ideas from those who are redefining the future of our industry and aims to inspire action in the built environment.”

Futurebuild Arena
As Futurebuild reflects on its two decades of pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in terms of innovation and sustainability, the Futurebuild Arena sessions in 2025 will delve deeper into the critical issues facing the industry. With climate change impacts intensifying and inequality growing, these sessions will explore how to create a vibrant, just, and sustainable economy within planetary boundaries. The three themes to be addressed are: Putting Circularity and Reuse at the Heart of Living and Working; Sustainability, Social Justice and Transition; and Making it Happen. Given the pressing deadlines, the time for decisive action is now.

The event with impact
Complementing the Impact 20×20 call for ideas, the five Impact Stages at Futurebuild will showcase cutting-edge approaches to sustainable construction and urban development. The Buildings Stage, sponsored by HG Matthews, explores net-zero design, Passivhaus standards, and climate-resilient construction methods. The Energy Stage, backed by Kensa, focuses on decarbonisation strategies and renewable solutions. The Materials Stage, supported by Aggregate Industries, examines circular economy principles and sustainable material selection. Extending the focus from essential infrastructure to the wider benefits of places for people and nature, the new Placemaking Stage addresses urban development beyond buildings, covering water management, biodiversity, and sustainable transport.

Expanding on the Futurebuild Impact theme, the FutureX Digital Disruptors Stage, sponsored by One Click LCA, will demonstrate how purposeful construction technology can be used intentionally to benefit both society and the environment.

Each stage features collaboration with leading industry organisations, offering practical insights and solutions for construction professionals seeking to create a more sustainable built environment.
