Now in its third iteration, Liverpool Architecture Festival will run throughout June with a programme of activities and events that spreads its reach and ups its game.
Liverpool Architecture Festival (LAF24) kicks off this June with over 100 free-to-attend events planned throughout Liverpool City Region. Building on previous successes, the third iteration, spreads its reach throughout Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool Sefton, St. Helens and Wirral. The theme ‘Neighbourhood’ is at the centre of all activities, increasing engagement outside of Liverpool City Centre to encourage local people to interact with their local architecture, and built environment.
In addition to building, walking and cycle tours, symposiums, and design charrettes, LAF24 is collaborating with local arts organisations to make architecture approachable to not just those working in the field. Following successful art & photography competitions local galleries dot-art and Open Eye Gallery are hosting exhibitions for the duration of the festival and LAF24 is delivering sketching and photography classes in each of the boroughs. A calendar of free, interactive activities take place  in Halton, Knowsley St. Helens, Sefton, Wirral, and throughout Liverpool. Family themed events such as Race the Architects will see young people pit their wits against architectural professionals in a race to build the tallest tower, whilst the beaches of West Kirby, New Brighton, Crosby, and Southport will host SandCities, a fun sandcastle building competition open to all ages and abilities. The hub of LAF24 will be the Architecture Showcase, located in a vacant ground floor commercial unit on Dale Street in Liverpool’s historic downtown for the whole of June, providing festival information and exhibiting work by Liverpool practices.
Curated and delivered by Liverpool Architecture Foundation CIC, LAF24 is supported by Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, the 6 LCR Borough Local Authorities, Liverpool BID, RIBA, and a number of local businesses linked to architecture and the built environment. “We hope to engage with over 5,000 people during the whole of June as the Liverpool Architecture Festival develops into a cultural anchor for Liverpool City Region.” said Liverpool Architecture Festival Founder Mathew Giles.
